Born in Greeneville, TN on November 12, 1987. Her dad wrecked on the way to the hospital. Cortney was born just inside the emergency room in a very small room. We couldn't hold her for several hours because her breathing was to rapid. She weighed 7lbs 2oz. She was a very beautiful baby. We brought her home on Nov. 13, 1987 around 6:00 p.m. Britney, her older sister (only 19 months older) didn't know what to think about her at first. But it didn't take long for her to settle in as big sister and to start looking out for little Corty. We were complete with Cortney Raquel. She was so beautiful with that olive super soft skin. She cried alot but we loved her anyway. Her and Britney became best buddies and great playmates. They played their hearts out when she got big enough to follow Britney around. They had their very own swing set and playhouse behind our little mobile home. They had the famous playroom with a million toys, some new and some we got at yard sales. Life was great! Things were perfect! We were a family full of love and laughter. We were completely happy and satisfied. Cortney always had birthday parties and fun holidays. She loved coloring Easter eggs and carving pumpkins at Halloween. We ran to all the grandparents houses at Christmas time. She had pets, from a banny rooster, goats to several dogs. Jr. is the dog we have had for the last ten years she was the one in the family that would always take the time to pet him and pose for a picture with him. Cortney and Britney played in their little kiddie pool on the deck down at the trailer when we lived there. They had a child size picnic table that Papaw Ray built them. Papaw Ray was the one who built their play house. Once Cort and Brit had a go-cart and Cortney loved that thing. We had to get rid of it because Cortney ran over Britney with it. Of course Britney wasn't taking turns on it so when Cortney finally would get Britney to let her have a turn she didn't want to give it back either. The reason Cortney ran over Britney was because Britney jump out in front of her and told her to stop because it was her turn and the next thing I knew Cortney floorboarded the go-cart and drove it up Britney's leg. We had so much fun with Cortney. She was funny from the time she could talk. She had a funny sounding voice when she was little. It makes me smile when I think about all the cherished memories of her. When Cortney was about 4 years old we moved into our home across the creek from our trailer. So the playhouse and the swing set had to come across the creek too. John my cousin who I love like a brother brought a big front end loaded over and picked the playhouse up and moved it to the new play area at the bottom of the hill. Terry built steps down through the woods from the house the play area. Britney and Cortney spent hours down their playing. If any kids came over to visit Cortney and Britney they always made sure they got them to hang out with them down at the play area. They spent hours together at the bottom of the hill. Not only were they great play buddies as little girls they were also each others best friends until the unexpected moment when Cortney went to live with Jesus. We only have memories now but oh what glorious memories we have. Thank you God for picking us to be Cortney Raquel's earthly family. |

Started School at Lamar. Cortney loved school and all her teachers. She always tried hard in school. She was serious about making good grades. She would get frustrated if she had a late ballgame and then have to come home to tons of homework. It was important to her to do as good as she could in all her classes. I'm sure though there were times when she just got by with the least she had to do. She just loved life and had so many friends. If she didn't have a house full of kids at our home then she was going to somebodies home for a sleepover or something. Cortney's friend's moms were also very kind about opening up their homes for the kids to hang out at. Just a bunch of wonderful families we met during those years. I thank God for all the Christian parents that Cortney was involved with. It makes a difference to have Christian people around your children when they are little. Cortney is a member of Cherry Grove Baptist Church. She loved Vacation Bible School, & Sunday School. She enjoyed all the Youth Retreats she went on. She helped with Hope Builders once, she loved that. She played baby Jesus when she was one month old. She played a girl named Gladys in another church play when she was older. Beautiful memories. When Cortney was about six years old we were watching a program on t.v. about the crucifixtion and she cried and I had to explain to her that Jesus did that so we could get saved so we could live with him in Heaven when we die. She wanted to get saved so I led her in a prayer the best way I knew how. The next Sunday she told our Pastor Jimmie Rogers that she had gotten saved. After that she was baptized at Cherry Grove. |

Started playing booster basketball. Even though she went to practice for a whole year with her older sister's team before she could ever play. The team still let her pose with them at picture time. She thought that was wonderful. These were some of the funnest times we all had with Cortney she was so cute and she became a really good ball player. She played ball all the time. She played booster basketball until the 6th grade. |

Played basketball for Lamar starting her 6th grade and played for Lamar all the way until she graduated from there. She also picked up Volleyball in the 7th grade. Cortney was pretty crazy about sports during those years at Lamar. |

Cortney and Jarrod became sweet on each other. We all just loved Jarrod from the start. He just fit in with the family so well. Jarrod treated Cortney like the princess that she was. She could say Jarrod I'm hungry and there is nothing here to eat and he would be at the house in minutes. He bought her stuff and took here anywhere she wanted to go. If she thought she needed a break from him for awhile he would give her the space she needed but as soon as she said ok I can't live without you he was back in a flash. I know they would have gotten married and had some babies so Terry and I could have been grandparents. I feel so sorry for him now I can hardly stand it. His dreams and plans of him and Cortney ever spending life together has been robbed from him forever. Please pray that Jarrod and the rest of us can get some kind of normacy back into our lives without her here with us. She was so important to us all and we miss her so bad there are no words to describe this horrible feeling. |

Since Cortney was so young when she first wanted to get saved she decided to confirmed her salvation when we were all on a Youth Retreat. I don't know why, but I instantly wrote it down in my Bible when she told me, March 23, 2002. Since her death this has given me more peace than anything else. It is very, very important that we receive Jesus Christ as our personal Savior. It is the only way to Heaven. And on that evening Cortney made it clear where she would spend eternity. If you want to see Cortney again in Heaven one day don't wait until it's to late ask Jesus into your heart this very instant. That is our only hope of ever seeing her again! |

Attended David Crockett High School. Had tons of friends. Had lots and lots of fun. Just enjoyed life. She had some ups and downs but she came out of them just fine. She drove a 1986 4-runner and worked at Pansy's Pantry with Britney her big sis. She was a joy to be around if she didn't make you laugh then your laughter just didn't work right. She was loving and kind and funny and a little daredevilish. But she wouldn't dare leave anyone out. She would speak to you someway somehow. She loved life and was robbed of getting to go on any further. But the life Cortney is enjoying now we can only imagine. Jesus, please just kiss and hug her alot until I get there. |

Our precious baby girl, Cortney Raquel Hensley, went to live with Jesus Christ the King of Kings in Heaven on September 24, 2005 at around 11:40 p.m at the age of 17. Instantly, she was carried by Angels into the presence of our Lord and Savior. |
